BILLINGS - ZooMontana is welcoming the addition of two baby otters to its animal family.
The zoo made the announcement Monday morning in a news release. Mia, one of ZooMontana's two North American River Otters, gave birth to two male pups March 11, becoming the first river otters to be born at zoo.
Each pup weighed in at just over four ounces at birth and have nearly tripled their weight since then.
ZooMontana visitors should be able to see the pups on exhibit within a few months, according to ZooMontana Executive Director Jeff Ewelt.
"Mia has been a great mother from day one. As a first time, inexperienced Mom, we were ready to intervene if needed, but I'm happy to say we haven't had to," said Zoo Curator Travis Goebel.
Goebel added that Mia can only stand to be separated from her pups for several minutes.
The two new otter pups join several new animals at ZooMontana including a Swainson's Hawk, Giant Day Geckos, three newborn lambs, a Red Tailed Boa Constrictor, a Savannah Monitor, three Bighorn Sheep and a Canada Lynx.
