On Wednesday, the Montana House Appropriations and Senate Finance Committees will meet together for the presentation of Governor Steve Bullock's budget proposal. Legislative Fiscal Analyst Amy Carlson will provide an independent analysis of the plan's effects. Bullock's $4.3 billion two-year budget includes $110 million in tax cuts and $26 million in new spending.
Also, the Senate Judiciary Committee will consider a bill sponsored by Republican Terry Murphy of Cardwell that would make most of the information on applications for concealed weapons permits confidential. Only the applicant's name and address would remain public.
The committee will also hear a bill introduced by Democrat Robyn Driscoll of Billings that would eliminate jail sentences for several misdemeanors. The reduced penalties would apply to people convicted of driving without a license, creating a public nuisance, or petty theft.
