Outdoor retailer REI is helping pay for a new outdoor leadership camp for local kids.
The program is called BOLD and GOLD and it gets kids out into the outdoors. The Gallatin Valley YMCA is one of five YMCAs nationwide to receive a grant from REI to start the program in our area. The Gallatin Valley YMCA will receive $25,000 this year and $22,000 next year along with the Billings Family YMCA. The BOLD and GOLD programs have been successful for five years in Seattle, success they're hoping to bring to local kids.
"Over 95% of kids have walked away with increased ability to communicate with their peers, a feeling of better confidence, a desire to be more active and involved in nature and the outdoors." said Ciara Wolfe, Assistant Executive Director of the Gallatin Valley YMCA.
The YMCA will hold an informational meeting on the new program April 18th at REI. For more information click here.
