MISSOULA - A misdemeanor charge is being recommended for the woman who hit and killed a pedestrian with her car in Missoula in April.
Hellgate High School senior Chance Geery died after being hit by a car driven by Yoon Hee Cho on the sidewalk of Mullan Road on April 1.
Missoula County Attorney Fred Van Valkenburg announced during a Thursday afternoon news conference that Hee Cho may face a charge of "careless driving resulting in a death" in connection with the crash.
Missoula police have determined that Hee Cho, 38, drove onto the sidewalk on Mullan Road and hit 18-year-old Geery from behind.
Police have said that she was distracted at the time of the incident but was not using her cell phone when she struck the Milltown teen.
Once police completed their investigation, the findings were turned over to Van Valkenburg's office to determine whether or not charges would be filed in the case.
Van Valkenburg is declining to prosecute the case, which means that Hee Cho will be charged in a Missoula City Court.
