There is a new proposed uptown Butte Urban Revitalization District.
The current Urban Revitalization Agency district will sunset or end on June 30, 2014.
A new district is proposed to continue forward with revitalizing the area with infrastructure development and lighting improvements.
This new proposed area is slightly larger and reaches farther to the south and west.
The boundary goes as far north as Copper Street, Arizona Street to the east, and farther south to Iron Street and Excelsior Avenue to the West.
A large proposed project like this will cover the area of a proposed parking garage in uptown Butte.
"The new URA district is extremely important to that project in that it will help alleviate that we are experiencing in uptown Butte," said Karen Byrnes, Urban Revitalization Agency director. "With the establishment of a new district we will be able to provide for the construction of a new parking garage for uptown Butte. Without the establishment of a new district we'd be unable to do that."
A public meeting will be held at the Butte Public Archives on June 12 at 2 p.m.
The public is encouraged to attend and give input.
Another meeting will be held that same day at the Council of Commissioners meeting at 7:30 p.m.
