JEFFERSON CITY - At least one vehicle crashed into a herd of elk near mile-marker 176 on I-15 at Jefferson City this morning, according to the Montana Department of Transportation.
The collision was reported at about 7:30 a.m.
It is not yet known if any people have been injured.
We have been told that several elk have died. A crew from the Montana Department of Transportation was dispatched to clear the elk carcasses.
Southbound traffic was slowed due to the collision.
Mike Gage shared this photo with us and tells us that a southbound vehicle crashed into four of the elk, and another vehicle heading north collided with two other elk.
The Montana Highway Patrol has not yet confirmed any details of the crash. We will update you as we we learn more.
