PONY - Officers are still searching for a man who reportedly stole three vehicles in the Belgrade area, broke into a home then fled to Madison County.
As of 3:20 p.m., the man had not yet been located. About nine officers with a K-9 team, are searching the area in the mountains near Pony. Some officers are using ATVS and they are waiting for a horse team to arrive. This photo was taken at the North Willow Creek Trailhead where the search led officers.
The man is in his 20s and has reddish blonde hair. He was last reported driving a white GMC pickup truck with a diamond plate toolbox in the back; this is believed to be the third vehicle he stole today. The Montana centennial license plate number is BAP 270.
The man also reportedly stole two other vehicles and broke into a house in north part of Gallatin County today. He reportedly crashed one of the vehicles in the area of the house. Officials say he went off-roading and was driving dangerously, at one point crossing over all lanes of the interstate. At one point, law enforcement from multiple agencies set up a perimeter in the River Rock Subdivision near Belgrade, but the man escaped from the area.
The sheriff's office released these details about the incident this afternoon:
At around 8 a.m., the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office received a report of a stolen vehicle from a business near Hulbert Road and Jackrabbit Lane. The vehicle was found on Rocky Mountain Road in the northern part of the county, according to the sheriff's office.
A pursuit ensued and the vehicle drove across an area where patrol cars could not follow, the release states.
A second vehicle was then reported stolen at a residence near this location and the pursuit continued. This time the vehicle drove off the East Frontage Road near Belgrade, over the railroad tracks and onto Interstate 90, the release states. Again, deputies pursuing the vehicle were unable to follow given the barriers between them and the vehicle.
Then at around 9:30 a.m., the sheriff's office responded to Business Hub Road where the second stolen vehicle was located in the area and it was determined that a third vehicle had been stolen.
We will continue to bring you details on this story as it develops.
