GREAT FALLS - New information has been released regarding Kaleb Kuebler, who jumped from upstairs in the rotunda at the county courthouse on Thursday morning.
Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards says that Kuebler was in leg shackles and waist chain/handcuffs and was being escorted by a youth detention officer to a change of plea hearing just before 11 a.m.
Edwards says that Kuebler went over the rotunda railing, even though a number of people tried to stop him.
Kuebler fell from the third floor to the second floor of the rotunda, causing a head injury.
Medical personnel responding to the scene stabilized his head and took him to Benefis hospital.
He was taken to Benefis hospital by ambulance and remains there in stable condition.
Sheriff Edwards says that preliminary results of the investigation and accounts from witnesses indicate that it "may have been an intentional act to do harm to himself."
Cascade County Attorney John Parker says that all courthouse business has been suspended for the rest of the day.
