BOZEMAN - Authorities are investigating a suspicious fire that erupted at the Blue Sky Motel in Bozeman this weekend.

The Bozeman Police Department and the Bozeman Fire Department responded to the fire around 11:50 p.m. Saturday. According to Deputy Chief of Operations, Greg Megaard, Two units from the fire department extinguished the firequickly. Minimal damage was reported, the fire spread through 2 rooms of the motel. The scene was cleared around 2:30 Sunday morning.

The Blue Sky Motel is scheduled for demolition and because there is no gas or power supply to the building, Megaard says the only way the fire could have started is by a person.

"We are treating it as suspicious but we have not been able to identify if someone was trying to get warm or if the fire was set intentionally," said Megaard.

Bozeman Fire Capt. Mark Criner says the demolition contractor will take over. The contractor says he plans to demolish the building as soon as possible to prevent future incidents from occurring.
