UPDATE: 8/10/13, 1:50 p.m.- An update to the fallout shelters for sale on Craigslist.
Although the bunkers were originally built by members of Church Universal Triumphant (CUT), the piece of property for sale is owned by a private individual.
BILLINGS - You could be the proud owner of four underground fallout shelters in Montana's Paradise Valley for a mere $1.5 million.
That offering featured on Craigslist, is turning heads and reviving memories of the Church Universal & Triumphant.
The church moved its headquarters to the Corwin Springs area in 1986, and shortly thereafter its spiritual leader Elizabeth Claire Prophet had revelations of a coming nuclear war with the Soviet Union.
The church built a series of 10 bomb shelters and began stockpiling food supplies as church members began to flock to Montana. The predicted "apocalypse" did not materialize, and in 2009 Prophet passed away.
The church still operates out of its Paradise Valley headquarters, and apparently is now trying to sell four of its underground shelters. The bunkers are made of reinforced concrete and are located on 12.5 acres.
The shelters were originally designed for 180+ people, and they come complete with backup power, fresh well water and gravity fed septic systems.
The original listing was for $1.8 million, but a special summer deal has reduced that price to $1.5 million.
MTN News did try to contact Church officials on Thursday to confirm the listing, and find out more about why the shelters are up for sale, but those calls and emails have not been returned.
