UPDATE: As of 4:47 p.m., 911 service has been fully restored to Butte-Silver Bow, according to the law enforcement.
BUTTE - Butte-Silver Bow is scrambling to get phone service up and running after a lightning bolt knocked out phone lines in several departments.
At around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, a lightning bolt struck in the north Montana Street area, somewhere between the law enforcement department and school district building. Phone lines at the law enforcement department, health department, detention center and courthouse were all affected. The 911 system is grounded and was able to take limited phone calls.
S&K Global, Dunne Communications and Butte-Silver Bow are repairing the system. The phone system was already up for bid on an upgrade system before the lightning incident.
"As long as our radios work and as long as the 911 system works we can manage. We managed before computers were around, we managed before there were cell phones and so we're good," George Skuletich Butte Silver Bow Law Enforcement Undersheriff George Skuletich.
Here are back-up cell phone numbers for non-emergencies.
Butte Silver Bow 911 Center: 490-0383 or 490-7288
Detention center: 498-2255 or 490-8313
Fire department: 782-9509
911 should still be called to report emergencies
