MISSOULA - Enrollment for the current spring semester at the University of Montana decreased 3.4 percent from one year ago, with 505 fewer students.

Right now, 14,201 students are attending the University.

Peggy Kuhr, UM's vice president of integrated communications, says they have been addressing the concerns of potential students.

"I think anytime theres challenges some out of our control you say, is the needle moving in the right direction? Are we doing everything we can to make the University of Montana the great place we believe it is?"

Kuhr says that one silver lining out of the enrollment numbers is that UM did a better job of retaining students from the fall semester one year ago.

UM began reporting enrollment decreases on the heels of national headlines about investigations into sexual assaults on the UM campus.
