BILLINGS - The Billings teen accused of killing his great grandmother this past July has entered a not guilty plea.
19-year-old Robert Alan Thompson appeared in Yellowstone County District Court by video before Judge Mary Jane Knisely Thursday morning.
Thompson faces one charge of deliberate homicide with a weapons enhancement for the death of 77-year-old Shirley Lawrence.
Thompson told investigators he got angry, hit Lawrence in the back of the head, and proceeded to stab her in the chest.
Thompson allegedly removed several items from her home and fled to Colorado in her car.
Since his arrest, Thompson fought extradition back to Montana.
With a warrant issued by Governor Steve Bullock, Thompson was transported from the Denver County Sheriff's Office to the Yellowstone County Detention Facility last week Friday.
His trial is set for January 13th,2014.
If found guilty, Thompson could spend life in prison. Bond is currently set at $250,000.
