STEVENSVILLE - A recent act of vandalism at the Maplewood cemetery in Stevensville has left residents feeling upset.
The cemetery's caretaker found several fallen and damaged grave stones om Sept. 30.
"[It] doesn't make sense why somebody would do that to these graves, and I feel bad for the loved ones," caretaker Dan Whitesitt said.
He first thought the damage was caused by heavy winds, but when he noticed that the bases were those of fairly large stones - he knew that it must have been an act of vandalism.
The general reaction in Stevensville is sadness and uncertainty as to why anyone would knock down the almost 100-year-old grave stones.
"There all very sad about the thing, I mean there all disgusted about the fact that somebody would come into an old cemetery like this, and start turning over markers and it's not a cheap thing to put 'em back! Dean Whitesitt added.
Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call Crimestoppers at (406) 363.0062.
