Corey Stapleton, a former Montana State Senator, has announced that he will challenge U.S. Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) for his seat in 2014.

Stapleton, a Republican, says in a video on his website, "I want to make life better for Montanans - for all of us, our kids, our grandkids, and that's why I'm running for the United States Senate."

Stapleton was elected to the Montana State Senate in 2000 and served through 2008.

During his time in the Montana Legislature, he served as the Senate Majority Whip and eventually the Senate Minority Leader.

Stapleton was a GOP candidate in the 2012 Montana gubernatorial campaign, losing out in the primary to Rick Hill.

Baucus, a Democrat, has served in the U.S. Senate since 1978.
