MISSOULA - The organizers of the Missoula Marathon have decided to cap the number of entrants in this year's race for the first time.
They still allowed for some growth, but they didn't want the event to explode to what the Garden City couldn't handle and right now, that's looking like a good idea.
Registration is quickly filling up for the seventh annual race with less than 60 spots left in the full marathon as of Monday.
The half marathon and 5K have plenty of openings remaining, but race director Anders Brooker expects the maximum allowed 6,000 runners to hit the streets on July 14.
"Registration now versus last year, we are way ahead of where we were at, and the cap has helped with that. It's created some energy and excitement. We are already past where we were at the full marathon last year. I think in the next month we're going to be past the half marathon. So registration is rolling along," he explained.
Brooker is encouraging anyone who wants to run the full marathon to sign up quickly to claim a spot. Click here to register for the Missoula Marathon.
