BUTTE - Now it's easier to buy a burn permit in Silver Bow and Powell counties.
Buying burn permits online will make it easier for fire officials to track the number of permits issued.
Butte Silver Bow Fire Marshal John Lasky says this is the first time you will have to pay for a burn permit. The cost is $10 and is good for the year.
"It's going to be good for the entire burning season. Before you could only get a burning permit for certain days during the season, a period. Now it's going to be good for the whole year and everything is still going to come under the open burning laws of the state of Montana," says Lasky.
You can still access burn permits at the Silver Bow County Courthouse.
You can access online service starting March 1 at www.BurnPermits.mt.gov.
