One man is dead after an officer-involved shooting near Helena this evening.
Lewis & Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton says that a man in his 60s was shot dead by a sheriff's deputy.
Deputies responded to the 3500 block of Moore Court to conduct a welfare check on Wednesday afternoon; they were told to approach with caution.
Sheriff Dutton said, "There was a warrant for his arrest for arson out of Musselshell County and there was an officer caution associated with it."
Sheriff Dutton isn't releasing details about what exactly took place except that the man was shot by the officer and died on the scene.
Lewis & Clark County Coroner Mickey Nelson is not releasing the name of the man at this time but he says the man appears to be in his 60s.
Sheriff Dutton says the deputy who was involved will be put on administrative leave as part of the normal procedure when law enforcement is involved in these types of incidents.
Dutton says the state Division of Criminal Investigation will be conducting the investigation into the shooting.
