BILLINGS- Community members now calling for a protest and a local judge to resign as a former Senior High School teacher is sentenced for rape.
Stacey Rambold will now serve 30 days for raping a 14-year-old student who later committed suicide.
District Judge Todd Baugh sentenced Rambold on Monday to 15 years in prison with all but 31 days suspended.
The 54-year-old will be given credit for "one" day already served.
Rambold is also sentenced to 15 years probation.
The victim's mother, Auliea Hanlon said, "Yesterday, I got up, I went court; I was floored. I thought there was a minimum sentence. I don't know, my faith in the justice system is gone."
Hanlon pleaded with the court to give Rambold the maximum sentence citing the former teacher's conduct played a major role in her daughter's suicide.
A silent protest is now scheduled for Thursday, August 29th, at noon on the Yellowstone County Courthouse Lawn.
A petition calling for Judge Baugh's resignation is currently circulating.
