More than 1,000 people have arrived in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest for this year's Rainbow Family gathering.
Members are busy setting up camps and kitchens at the site near Jackson, Montana, according to a news release from the U.S. Forest Service. There are currently 156 cars, 72 vans and 36 buses in the designated parking areas, the Forest Service reports.
The national gathering is scheduled for July 1-7. This year's location is the same site of the 2000 National Rainbow Family Gathering when attendance peaked at 23,000 people.
The U.S. Forest Service is alerting travelers to driving concerns in the area. Black Angus cattle are outside of fences on Highway 278 between mile markers 38 and 40. Also, traffic is expected to increase on main access roads to the Saginaw Creek area this week.
