HELENA - Only three health insurance companies intend to sell policies on Montana's health insurance exchange.
Commissioner of Securities and Insurance Monica Lindeen announced Thursday that Blue Cross Blue Shield, PacificSource and the Montana Health Cooperative all filed necessary paperwork with her office to sell policies on the exchange.
The exchange is a federally mandated online marketplace where people can shop for health insurance.
Consumers will be able to purchase health insurance on the exchange starting in October; by January 2014 the coverage will kick in.
The federal government has laid out parameters for what must be included in the policies. After speaking to all three of the companies, they all agree it was a complicated process getting their policies in compliance with federal requirements.
We do not yet have information about how much the policies will cost. Lindeen's office will release that at a later date.
