BILLINGS - One man was shot in downtown Billings early Saturday morning after he reportedly opened fire on a Billings Police officer.
Shortly after midnight police responded to the report of a suspicious man possessing a gun at the Stampede Bar at 222 North 28th, according to Billings Police Lieutenant Jeremy House.
When an officer located the man at 3rd Avenue North and North 29th St, the suspect reportedly opened fire on the officer.
The officer returned fire, striking the man once in the leg.
The man was transported to Billings Clinic where he was treated for a gunshot wound. The man is now in jail.
No officers were injured.
As of 4:30 a.m. the 200th block of N 29th St and the intersection of Third Ave N and N 29th St. has been reopened.
