Betty A. Thompson passed away on Oct. 3, 2013 with her family by her side. Betty was born Jan. 8, 1925 in Spokane, Washington, to John and Effie (Johnson) Williams. She moved to Bozeman, Montana, as a young child where she attended Gallatin County schools. She later graduated from Western Union School in California and worked at the local Western Union office in Bozeman holding various positions including manager. At the closing of the office, she went to work for the City of Bozeman in the SID Department until her retirement in 1988.
Betty married Ray L. Cloninger in 1943 in Missoula, Montana. Prior to his death in 1984, they spent 41 wonderful years together. As a result of this union, they had three children, John, Patty and Betty. She married Norman Thompson in 1989 and they were married for 23 years until his death in 2012.
Betty was an avid bowler and City Secretary for the Bozeman's Women's Bowling Association for several years. She was a member of the Eagle's Auxiliary for over 50 years. Betty also enjoyed sewing, knitting, fishing, camping and spending time with her family.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother as evidenced by the love and compassion she had for her family.
She is survived by her brother, Jack Williams (Marilyn); sisters, Alice Hill, Janna Phillips and Jeanne Winchell; children, John Cloninger, Patty Whitlock (Dan) and Betty Camp (Ray); grandsons, Chris Barkell (Jessie), Nick Camp (Kenzie) and Shane Cloninger; great-grandchildren, Amber, Aaden, Zoey and Gracie. She is also survived by three step-children, Tom Thompson (Kathy), Karol Pennington and John Thompson (Lynne).
She was preceded in death by her husbands, father, mother, sisters, Eloise, Dorothy and Mary, brother, Warren, and an infant son.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Oct. 9, 2013 at Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel. Memorials may be made in her name to the charity of one's choice.
