NFL's Eric Dickerson to headline MSU's Triangle Classic

BOZEMAN - Montana State made waves Tuesday by adding SMU to its 2013 football schedule. On Wednesday, the Bobcats announced one of SMU's all-time greats as the highlight of its annual spring classic.

Former SMU star Eric Dickerson, who set the NFL single-season rushing record with 2,105 yards in 1984, was announced by the Great Falls Chapter of the Bobcat Club as the featured speaker at the 2013 Triangle Classic Banquet in Great Falls on April 19. The banquet and auction kicks off an annual celebration of MSU football, and begins at 6 pm on Friday in Four Seasons Arena.

Dickerson's record-setting 1984 season came on the heels of a 1,808-yard rookie season, and jump-started his Pro Football Hall of Fame career. Dickerson gained at least 1,000 yards in seven different seasons, became the seventh player to gain 10,000 career rushing yards, and was the fastest to do so. He was selected to six Pro Bowls, and his 13,259 career rushing yards was second-most in NFL history at the time of his retirement.

The Triangle Classic continues on Saturday, April 20, with children's football and cheer camps at the Paris Gibson practice fields at 1 pm. The weekend, and Montana State's 2013 spring practice session, culminates with the Triangle Classic Scrimmage at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is slated for late afternoon, although an exact time is yet to be determined.
