A new law went into effect on Tuesday, making it legal to salvage and eat roadkill in Montana.
Though the law formally took effect on Tuesday, it will be nearly a month before people can scrape any animals off the pavement.
That's because the Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission still needs to finalize new rules regarding the law.
It is known that only deer, elk, antelope and moose which are struck and killed by vehicles can be picked up.
Additionally however, anyone looking to salvage the roadkill must apply for a permit.
FWP officials say the intent of the law is for the dead animals to be eaten, and therefore, the entire animal needs to be removed from the road.
