POLSON - Authorities have released the name of the victim, as well as that of the suspect, in Saturday's fatal stabbing in Polson.
Lake County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Karen Sargeant says the man killed was John Pierre, 26, of Polson while the suspect in the incident is Makueeyapeh Whitford of Browning.
Sargeant says Whitford is being held in the Lake County jail on a charge of deliberate homicide as an investigation into the stabbing continues.
Pierre was stabbed at around 4 a.m. on Saturday at a home in the 1600 block of First Street East in Polson. He was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Sargeant told us on Saturday that a Polson officer found and arrested the male suspect at a local motel about an hour after the stabbing.
The motive is still not clear, although authorities say that alcohol consumption played a role in the incident.
The Polson Police Department, the Lake County Sheriff's Office and Confederate Salish and Kootenai Tribal Law and Order officials are working on a joint investigation.
