NORRIS - A year after losing their house in a wildfire, a Madison County couple is struggling again to protect their home.
This time, Paul and Gloria Hurtgens' home is okay, but their driveway and the hillside by the home were washed away from a Saturday afternoon mudslide.
Gloria describes the slide as a huge waterfall from the top of the hill, washing down. She was scared they were going to lose their newly built home.
She believes that the mudslide is a direct result of the Bear Trap 2 Fire last summer, which burned down their previous home.
The family rebuilt this winter.
Today, work was being done to move rocks and build a dam to help prevent potential future slides from impacting their home.
This slide traveled down the Hurtgens hillside all the way down to Norris Road.
