Over the past year we tend to be so enthralled with our local teams' performances on the field that we sometimes lose sight of what these schools do off the field.
Montana State comes out with their report card over the fall semester and it is certainly an impressive one. Fall varsity sports averaged a 3.15 cumulative GPA. That's now the 22nd consecutive semester with a grade point average of over 3.0.
Montana State's Nordic ski squad led the school's varsity athletic teams with a 3.43 GPA, while women's tennis (3.40) and alpine ski (3.33) were close behind. Of Bobcat Athletics' 14 varsity squads (combining indoor and outdoor track programs, and featuring the spirit squad), 11 posted team GPAs of better than 3.0.
One name that stands out in that group? Buchanan award winner Caleb Schreibeis who posted all A's and A minuses as an engineering student
