Montana State Athletic Director, Peter Fields confirmed on Tuesday that MSU has dropped it's game at North Dakota State and replaced it with a road game at SMU in Dallas. Fields told MTN Sports that the decision was made so that he could schedule a Thursday night home game on August 29th. To do that, Fields had to pay Monmouth College of New Jersey $200,000 to make the trip and $100,000 to North Dakota State to get out of their game, but MSU will make $300,000 for playing SMU. Here is what Fields told MTN Sports:
"This is about Montana State. This is about making a decision, it was a hard decision but it was a decision about Montana State and what's best for our program. At this point in time, we wanted a home game and so in order to make that happen we had to generate some more revenue so it's revenue neutral but it gets our student-athletes from Texas home and it makes a better program for us."
The entire MSU Football Schedule is:
Monmouth August 29, @SMU September 7, Mesa State September 14, @ Steven F. Austin September 21, @University of North Dakota September 28, Northern Arizona October 5, @Weber State October 19, U.C. Davis October 26, @ Northern Colorado November 2, @ Eastern Washington November 9, Southern Utah November 16, November 23 Montana.
