BUTTE - Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement has released more details about the woman who accidentally died after falling into a dumpster behind the BSW Thrift Store on Sunday.
The 49-year-old Butte woman reportedly had a habit of searching trash bins. Detectives determined the woman was standing on a loading dock behind the store when she fell in.
Medical examiners at the Montana state crime lab say she died of positional asphyxia, meaning she could not breathe due to the position of her body. Her body was nearly upside down.
Large items in the trash bin, like suitcases and bed frames, reportedly fell on top of her as she struggled to get out. She was pinned against the trash bin, preventing her from moving and breathing properly.
An individual who had the same habit of searching through trash bins discovered her body.
Authorities responded to the scene at around 9 a.m. Sunday.
"No signs of anything suspicious, and our investigation agrees with the findings of the medical examiner of the crime lab. No reason to believe that there is anything other than a tragic accident," Sheriff Ed Lester said.
Her identity will be released when the family has been notified.
