BUTTE - Montana Tech Students joined Safe Space representatives in standing up to violence against women this morning.

Tech hosted a Zumba party to celebrate women and girls who have survived violence. More than 100 countries celebrated the One Billion Rising event today, according to Brieanne Vermeire, sexual assault specialist with Safe Space.

One out of three women will experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime, Vermeire said. The thought behind the event today is that one billion women dancing could start a revolution.

"I think it's great that Tech students are participating, because college age is a huge age for risk factors of sexual and physical violence," Vermerire said.

The One Billion Rising event will continue at the Butte Plaza Mall until 8 p.m.
