BUTTE - Montana Tech won't start spring football until tomorrow, but they already know what their biggest question is: how do they deal with the loss of quarterback Nick Baker?
Baker, a junior, is focusing on academics this spring so that he can graduate a year early and attend graduate school. He is a mathematical sciences major.
Replacing his production might be a major headache. Baker threw for 2,663 yards and 26 touchdowns while leading the Orediggers to their first conference title under coach Chuck Morrell and an 8-3 record. Baker set five school records in 2012, including single game passing yards (394), attempts in a game (55), attempts in a season (405), completions in a game (38), and completions in a season (271).
The team will likely turn to junior Brian Schwarzkoph. He started eight games in 2011, throwing for 1,465 yards and nine touchdowns before his season ended with an injury. Tech was 1-7 in his eight games.
