Planning for this summer's Montana Folk Festival is well underway.

Organizers announced the first six performing artists for the festival. By May there will be at least 20 artists lined up, according to George Everett, executive director for Mainstreet Uptown Butte.

Organizers are confident this folk festival will generate as much revenue as past years. Typically they bring in about $25 for every dollar that is spent to organize the festival. Last year more than $800,000 was spent organizing the event. The festival generated $25-30 million being spent in Butte and Montana, according to Everett.

Organizers are planning to change the layout of the festival, but they say people can always expect free admission.

"We're hoping that they are as excited and amazed as they were the first time they ever came, and if it is their first time coming that they really check it out and see what a phenomenal event it is," Everett said.

Organizers are always looking for more volunteers. Visit www.montanafolkfestival.com to become a volunteer for the folk festival this summer. This website also provides information for musical artists and vendors.
