BILLINGS - One of the landmarks of downtown Billings is on the auction block today.
The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has opened the public auction of the former Battin Courthouse.
According to the GSA, this sale represents a unique opportunity to acquire a significant building located in the Central Business District of Billings at 316 North 26th Street. The sale includes one office building of approximately 221,000 square feet on a nearly an acre lot.
Bids start at $1. Interested bidders will have to provide a $45,000 refundable registration deposit to register for the sale and to bid on the property. The former US James F. Battin U.S. Courthouse was originally constructed to serve as office and courthouse space and was continuously used as such until the completion of the new Billings Federal Courthouse.
Construction of the building was completed in 1965. The building is five stories and includes a mechanical penthouse, one main basement level, and a sub-basement and a 56-car parking garage.
