Manhattan man to appear in court for Cody, WY child abduction case

BOZEMAN - Court documents have been filed in Gallatin County district court for a man accused of kidnapping and assaulting an 11-year-old girl in Park County, Wyoming.

Jesse Paul Speer, 39, of Manhattan is charged on a warrant out of Wyoming on felony charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault and use of a firearm. He will be seen in Gallatin County District Court Monday at 1:30 p.m.

Speer was arrested by authorities in Belgrade on October 13. The warrant says he is being charged in connection with events that occurred on October 8 in Park County, Wyoming. He's being held in the Gallatin County Detention Center on a $2 million bond.

On Monday, Oct. 8, an 11-year-girl was abducted in Cody, Wyoming by a man who enticed her into his SUV by asking for help finding his missing puppy. She was later found and reunited with her family.

Local law enforcement with the Bozeman Police Department, Gallatin County Sheriff's Office and Belgrade Police Department will conduct a press conference regarding their role in Speer's arrest at 3:00 p.m. Monday at the Gallatin County Detention Center.
