Man dies after shooting himself at Hungry Horse party

HUNGRY HORSE- A Hungry Horse man is dead after accidentally shooting himself during an alcohol induced celebration.
Donald McPheeters, 53, died of a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigating officers say McPheeters was playing with a .22 magnum revolver which he believed was unloaded.
"Officers arrived and found that the male was deceased, two other occupants of the residence were extremely intoxicated. Their statements indicated that the three of them were playing with a .22 caliber revolver, one of them had believed that they emptied the cylinder. Handed it to the victim who was playing around with it, pointed it to himself and fired the round that was in the revolver," Flathead County Undersheriff Dave Lieb explained.
He added witnesses had said they were drinking to celebrate their friends release from jail on an unrelated alcohol charge.
