BOZEMAN - Bail was set at $50,000 today for a man accused of forcing his way into a Bozeman home and punching a woman in the face.
Matthew Singer, 35, appeared in Gallatin County Justice Court via video conference today. He is charged with aggravated burglary, partner/family member assault, obstructing a peace officer and criminal tampering or destruction of a communication device.
At around 1:51 a.m. Friday, police were called to a West Koch residence where the caller stated an ex-roommate was beating up another roommate. Police arrived on scene and began chasing the man down an alley until he stopped and was taken into custody.
The woman at the residence said she had dated Singer, but they had broken up months ago. He showed up at the residence and forced his way inside when a struggle began and Singer reportedly began punching her in the face, according to court papers.
Singer is also accused of taking the woman's cell phone to prevent her from calling police.
He is being held in the Gallatin County Detention Center.
