GREAT FALLS - Kaleb Kuebler, the teen charged with rape who jumped from the courthouse rotunda last week, remains in the hospital where his condition is said to be "progressing," according to Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards.
Kuebler was in leg shackles and waist chain/handcuffs and was being escorted by a youth detention officer to a change of plea hearing just before 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 5th.
Kuebler jumped over the rotunda railing, even though a number of people tried to stop him; he fell from the 3rd floor to the 2nd floor landing below.
Medical personnel responding to the scene stabilized Kuebler and took him to Benefis hospital.
Sheriff Edwards tells us that Kuebler remains under guard.
Kuebler is expected to recover, but it is not yet known if he has suffered any long-term injuries.
The investigation into his jump from the rotunda is still being conducted.
Authorities are still determining if additional charges - such as attempting to escape - may be filed against Kuebler.
Kuebler is charged with raping an 11-year old girl.
