POLSION - A man convicted of taking part in the murder of a St. Ignatius man in 2005 was released on his own recognizance after a bond hearing Wednesday, according to Lake County officials.

Clifford Oldhorn was originally sentenced to life without parole in the July 2005 death of 73-year-old Harold Mitchell Jr, a former Confederated Salish and Kootenai tribal chairman.

Prosecutors say Mitchell was beaten and stabbed, and then his trailer was set on fire to cover up evidence.

However, a judge ruled that part of Oldhorn's confession was not given voluntarily, because he gave it while believing he had immunity from prosecution. The State is appealing that ruling.
