BILLINGS - Information was released Thursday afternoon, surrounding a yearlong investigation that resulted in the prosecution and conviction of 22 local criminals.
The operation, known as "Billings Area Criminals" or BAC for short, involved multiple federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
BAC launched in October 2010 in response to multiple shooting incidents in the Billings area. The operation lead undercover agents to stop planned criminal activity and the distribution of narcotics. They also retrieved more than 50 guns used in those crimes.
Among those arrested was Cleveland Boyer who was charged with deliberate homicide and sentenced to life in prison. The other sentences range from one to 14 years.
"ATF with its partner agencies will robustly enforce federal laws in an effort to target those who would otherwise make our community a violent place to live," said ATF Resident Agent in Charge Ken Bray. "ATF does and will continue to vigorously enforce current federal firearms statutes in our effort to curb violent crime in Montana."
Part of the operation was run through a store that served as an undercover location. Agents collected information on drug traffickers, armed robbers and home invasion crews.
