Pam McCutcheon was just one dog owner who took a hike today for today's inaugural Tails on Trails event.
"Amazing," McCutcheon said. "So fun. The dogs got great treats, presents."
Gallatin Valley Land Trust and the Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter hosted the event to teach dog owners about good trail etiquette and the local trail system.
Participants hiked the Sourdough Canyon Trail - which is a hot spot for hikers, bikers and runners.
Different groups set up stations along the route to teach owners some tips, tricks and take their picture.
One organizer says it's important for people with dogs to be mindful of others.
"These trails get used by folks with dogs, folks without dogs, folks on bikes, folks on skis, folks with baby strollers, and we want everybody to learn how to use the trails together," said Penelope Pierce of the Gallatin Valley Land Trust.
Pierce says there are nearly 67 miles of trails around Bozeman - and you can walk your dog without a leash on many of them.
