BILLINGS - It's one thing to get hurt playing the sport you love. But how about being dealt the blow of a life-changing injury?

A week ago Friday Koni Dole was playing in Huntley Project's final game of the season. After assisting on a defensive play in the fourth quarter, Dole snapped both bones in his lower-right leg. Doctors performed six surgeries, but Dole developed an infection and made the decision himself to amputate.

Doctors amputated on Monday.

Dole is still in the hospital and says his goal is a Friday release so he can watch his strength coach, Adam Husk, play in the Rocky's game against Carroll Saturday. No official fund-raising effort has been set up but those interested can contact Huntley Project High School at 1477 Ash Street, Worden, MT or (406) 967-2540.
