BILLINGS- A media spokesman with the Federal Aviation Administration says that preliminary information indicates the helicopter that crashed north of Shepherd on Saturday morning clipped power lines before crashing.
The pilot of the helicopter did not survive the crash.
However, Allen Kenitzer noted that the information was preliminary and that the National Transportation Safety Board, another agency investigating the crash, will be releasing a basic preliminary report within a week or two.
Kenitzer also warned that it typically takes months for the NTSB to come up with a probably cause following accidents.
Kenitzer says the helicopter was described as a Bell 206B in the report.
Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Dave Muhlbeier said on Saturday that the identity of the victim would likely be released early this week.
