Emergency were dispatched to Big Flat Road just west of Missoula in response to a helicopter crash.
Dispatchers were called shortly after 1 p.m. by residents who said they had seen a helicopter go down in the Clark Fork River, in a section of the river right below the confluence of the Clark Fork and the Bitterroot just below Kelly Island.
We're told that the pilot was the only person on board the helicopter when it made what is called a "hard landing."
The pilot was reportedly practicing bucket drops.
Authorities say that no one sustained any serious injuries and firefighters say the helicopter didn't leak any fuel into the river.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
More details as they become available.
