HELENA - Richard Leslie Oase of Helena faces felony charges for discharging a firearm at a pawn shop on Wednesday.
Oase, 50-years-old, appeared in Justice Court on felony criminal endangerment for discharging a firearm in the city.
The report came in Wednesday when Helena police got a call from Alias Smith & Jones Pawn Shop shortly after 10:00 a.m.
The store clerk told police that Oase brought in a .45-caliber pistol to pawn and when he pulled it out to show that it wasn't loaded, a round in the chamber fired into the floor.
The clerk said that the bullet discharged into the floor within six feet of where she was standing.
Oase apologized and then was asked to leave.
Officers later found Oase at his apartment.
Court documents state that a breathalyzer test revealed Oase's blood alcohol content at .211.
Oase is in jail on a $10,000 bond.
The charge carries a $50,000 fine and up to 10 years in prison.
