HELENA - Lou Walters of Clancy and Don Holmquist of Helena have claimed a $10,000 Powerball prize for the Jan. 16 draw with a ticket purchased from Montana City Store, 1 Jackson Creek Road; Montana City.
Lou and Don have played Powerball together for several years. Lou buys the tickets for 24 draws at a time but isn't in the habit of checking them until he returns to buy the next set. In other words, he didn't know until this week that he and Don had won $10,000 more than two months ago.
After a bit of teasing from his friend, Lou said he would adjust his habits in light of their win. "I think I'm going to check my tickets more often now," he said.
The estimated jackpot for Wednesday's Powerball draw is $40 million.
The Montana Lottery was created by referendum in 1986. In 25 years, it has paid more than $435 million in prizes and returned more than $197 to the State of Montana.
