HAMILTON - A Hamilton man who is accused of killing his wife after a night of drinking and fighting has pleaded "no contest" to a murder charge.
Douglas Charles Reynolds entered the plea to a lesser charge of negligent homicide, as well as guilty plea to a DUI charge as part of a plea deal.
The charges stem form a November 11, 2012 incident at Deffy's Motel in Hamilton where, according to court documents, Reynolds told investigators he "snapped" when his common-law wife, Jessica Hawkins, became volatile.
Prosecutors say he held her down and hit her in the temple with his elbow. The woman was taken to the hospital where she died from brain damage a few days after the alleged fight.
Reynolds remains in jail on a $250,000 bail and his sentencing is set for August 22.
