Gunman in Mining City Taxi shooting believed to be dead

BUTTE - The gunman involved in the Mining City Taxi shooting is believed to be deceased, Butte-Silver Bow Sheriff Ed Lester said.

Law enforcement identified the individual as a suspect late last week, according the Lester. A weapon and evidence gathered on the suspect and at the crime scene have been sent to the Montana State Crime Lab for analysis.

"I can't really go into the details of how we developed this individual as a suspect other than to say that he is deceased and we will continue with this investigation with the results from the crime lab," Lester said.

Authorities believe this individual acted alone. At this time authorities are not releasing details of the individual's death. Lester said the death did not appear suspicious or criminal in nature.

"At this time, I do not believe there is any particular danger to the public from this particular individual," Lester said.

Law enforcement will have more information when they receive the results from the crime lab.
