GREAT FALLS - Shirlene Blackbird has been charged with felony assault on a minor after reportedly beating her 8-year-old son on Friday.
Court documents state that Blackbird saw her son kissing a girl outside of a home on 19th Avenue South and became angry, and then began hitting him "with a closed fist," and then picked up a toy gun and hit the boy with it, breaking the toy in the process.
The court documents say that she she also kicked him, and according to witnesses, "stomped him," causing him to bleed.
When questioned by police, Blackbird reportedly admitted to hitting the boy in the head with the toy gun.
One of the responding police officers noted that the boy had fresh abrasions and bruising on his back, abdomen, shoulder, head, and face.
Bond for Blackbird, who is 34-years-old, was set at $2,500.
Prosecutors requested that if she bails out, she should be under court order to have no contact with either the boy or with witnesses without the involvement of child-welfare officials.

Blackbird was arrested and charged with assault on a minor on Friday night.
The child was reportedly assaulted on 19th Avenue South around 7 p.m. on Friday.
The boy was taken to Benefis hospital following the alleged assault; the nature and extent of his injuries has not been disclosed.
