Lewis & Clark County Coroner Mickey Nelson says that the man who was killed on Friday southwest of Augusta was a 53-year-old man from Great Falls.
Lewis & Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton says the man was shot at least once in the chest.
The incident happened at 15533 Steamboat Drive, about a mile from the Diamond Bar X Guest ranch.
It reportedly was the result of an argument over easement access.
Sheriff Dutton says a woman called the dispatch center just before 12:30 p.m. on Friday to report that her husband was involved in a verbal altercation with another man.
The man's body is being taken to the state crime lab in Missoula for an autopsy.
The victim's name has not yet been released.
Authorities have not yet released the name of the suspect, who is said to be cooperating with officials in the investigation.
